Submarines in Arctic Waters


CDR William R. Anderson, SUNSHINE II - conducted the first trans-polar crossing and included first use of inertial navigation system.  The cover above is signed by CDR Anderson after his return from the Arctic.  It is postmarked New London, Conn - Submarine Base Br. Dec 23 1958.  The corner card states:  USS NAUTILUS (SS(N)571), Fleet Post Office, New York, New York.
